WHAT’S NEXT?
Evolution; the change in the characteristics of a species over several generations that relies on the process of natural selection. Humans have known to be evolved from the species of homo sapiens. On the contrary, there is a theory by Neil Shubin, stating that humans have been evolved from fish. “Everything that we have are versions of things that are seen in fish,” says Shubin.
Over the years, we have been looking for answers to questions that are still not clear. We’re looking for alternatives. Every time we narrow down an answer there is an alternate theory contradicting all the research that has been done so far. Time as discovered by the great Stephen Hawking, is relative while prior to his research, Aristotle and Newton believed in absolute time.
Hawking contradicts all the theories that have been discovered in the early centuries. The question here stands that when we’re still in the middle of finding a definite answer to our existence, how can we be certain of the future? With the human existence still unanswered, we have now created an artificial human of ourselves known as the “Artificial Intelligence”.
An artificial Intelligence is a replica of humankind only mechanical. A machine capable of doing what humans can. To converse, to feel, to work anything humans are capable of doing only quicker. The world today is now counting on AI for the future. Anything and everything is now being produced with the vision of an AI and that it is the tomorrow. India along with the world is developing technology to help operate at a faster pace with the help of AI. But, is AI really the future? Is it really going to help the humans? An American series “NEXT” which is a propulsive thriller shows the emergence of a deadly, rogue artificial intelligence that combines pulse-pounding action with a layered examination of how technology is invading our lives and transforming us in ways we don’t yet understand.
Artificial Intelligence has its cons as to its pros. What humans fail to understand is the overdependency on AI to see the future. We have restricted ourselves to look for alternatives other than the AI. There is a possibility when AI can surpass human intelligence and behave in a superior manner. Till date we have only witnessed artificial intelligence as per the limited knowledge of humans but what does it have for our future is yet to be discovered. What if, rather than a single piece of tech, an extremely advanced artificial intelligence program became so smart that it could hack the entire plugged-in world? What if it wasn’t just your phone coming to get you, but absolutely anything with an internet connection? As the name suggests, artificial intelligence can work independently as per its own permutation and combination and hence take decisions without human supervision. With our limited knowledge, we undermine the possibility that it can also affect us adversely to be that dependent on an AI. Think about all the things an AI could do on its own without us knowing. Hacking and cyber crime would be a piece of cake.
Besides, with the growing population, when Elon Musk is looking for possibilities to colonize Mars due to the increasing population on earth and limited resources, AI would only increase unemployment.
The big question lies here is that what comes next? Humans as we know are still a mystery as to our existence, our purpose and our ancestors. We have evolved over time only to fight against the others. What does the future actually hold for us with the fast emergence of artificial intelligence into our world? Is it really going to be helpful or is it going to be just another mistake to weaken our planet? Whatever may be the outcome, we must be certain of one thing that complete dependency on anything that can decisions without any supervision can also backfire the very purpose it was brought into existence for. This is the time we need to be careful with our choices. So the question still remains unanswered, when human evolution is mot yet certain, when we’re looking for life outside our universe, when humans are creating intelligence of their own, WHAT’S NEXT?
